Sharon Dunn, PT, PhD, was APTA President for two terms, from June 2015 through December 2021. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy.
Dunn is dean of the School of Allied Health Professions and an associate professor of rehabilitation sciences at Louisiana State University Shreveport. She has been on faculty at LSU Shreveport for more than 20 years, in positions spanning chief physical therapist – instructor to program director of the DPT program and director of the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency, for which she was instrumental in developing and gaining accreditation.
Dunn's previous association leadreship roles include being a director on APTA's board and serving as president of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association. She also is a former recipient of the Allen A. Copping Excellence in Teaching Award, a nationally invited keynote speaker, and a peer-reviewed publisher of numerous scientific articles and posters.
Dunn received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master’s degree in health sciences from the LSU Shreveport School of Allied Health Professions, and her PhD in cellular biology and anatomy from the university’s School of Graduate Studies.
