APTA supports H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act. The bipartisan legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Reps. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., Larry Bucshon, R-Ind., Ami Bera, D-Calif., and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa. H.R. 2474 would provide an annual inflationary payment update to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor by tying it to the Medicare Economic Index, or MEI. The MEI is a measure of inflation faced by health care providers with respect to their practice costs and general wage levels.
