Falls Prevention Awareness Day is coming September 22, making now a great time to check out falls-related resources on APTA's recently expanded PTNow evidence-based practice center.
Here's a quick take on just some of the falls-related resources available at PTNow. (Editor's note: PTNow content was incorporated in to apta.org in June 2020.)
- Unilateral vestibular hypofunction clinical summary—this new offering is linked to a clinical practice guideline (CPG), a PTNow CPG+ resource, and other clinical resources from the APTA Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy.
- Fall risk in community-dwelling elders clinical summary—an updated resource aligns with the APTA Academy of Geriatrics clinical guideline statement on falls published in Physical Therapy.
- Osteoporosis clinical summary—this new resource helps clinicians understand the risks of falls-related fractures.
- Tests and measures—new or updated resources include timed up and go related to patients with spinal cord injury, fracture risk assessment, clinical test of sensory interaction and balance, and a self-paced walk test.
APTA also offers information on falls at its Balance and Falls webpage. Resources include continuing education courses, tips on developing consumer events on falls, and links to other organizations.
