Kyle Covington, PT, DPT, PhD, welcomed attendees to the profession's premier event, calling it the epicenter of inspiration, innovation, and connection.
Fittingly for the conference that gathers learning and networking within and among APTA's 18 specialty sections/academies to one place and time, Covington said he believes the association's strength lies "in the connection between experienced and new leaders; our national organization and our components; and our profession and communities."
Specific to the occasion of the evening — recognizing newly board-certified clinical specialist PTs as well as PTAs who have completed APTA's Advanced Proficiency Pathways program — Covington told the audience, "Our new specialists are the future leaders in our clinics, communities, and our organization. Together, with the wisdom of our experienced leaders, we have the power to drive meaningful progress in our field, enhance our clinical practices, and shape our future."
Covington went on to highlight some of APTA's many recent advocacy wins, such as changing the burdensome direct supervision requirement to general supervision for PTAs under Medicare Part B. He noted that "our collective success is built on inclusivity, ensuring every voice within our organization is heard and valued." He also acknowledged where there is still work to be done.
"As the world of health care evolves rapidly, we must find more ways to ensure APTA remains relevant, dynamic, and inclusive," he said. "Your participation enables us to be adaptable and equips you, our members, to move at the world's rapid pace."
In essence, Covington said, "At APTA, everyone has a place to contribute their expertise and their voice. So, whether you're being recognized for your past service or introduced to new opportunities, I invite you to remain engaged at all levels. Our continued success and evolution depend on your involvement."
