Anita Bemis-Dougherty, PT, DPT, is vice president of practice at APTA.
She has been involved in APTA initiatives including clinical documentation and peer review; fall risk reduction and prevention; scope of practice; PT practice in acute care, the ICU, and the emergency department; revisions to the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice; clinical practice guideline development; the movement system; and application of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. Before joining the association in 2006, she was the physical therapy manager at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also has practiced in tertiary, academic medical institutions, which included a variety of clinical settings such as outpatient, acute care, and acute inpatient rehabilitation. She received her doctor of physical therapy degree from Widener University, her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy at The University of Maryland - Baltimore, and a master’s degree in administration from the Johns Hopkins University.
