Overview

This clinical practice guideline from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons provides the best evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of acute isolated meniscal pathology.

Three recommendations are specific to the physical examination, imaging, and joint degeneration, while six options (supported by lower-quality evidence) pertain to surgery, biological enhancement, and physical therapy.

The development of this guideline was a collaborative effort between representatives from the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Academy of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
