APTA's practice advisory helps practice owners and organization administrators, staff PTs and PTAs, and health IT developers understand the opportunities and implications of the information blocking rule. The rule was issued to improve the sharing of electronic health information with patients and between organizations. Disincentives for health care providers, including PTs, who violate the rule were finalized in July 2024 and are outlined in this practice advisory.
