APTA is building a community that advances the profession of physical therapy to improve the health of society. We do this by fostering advancements in physical therapist practice, research, and education — and by empowering the profession to transform society. Here are ways you can participate in our progress.
Value Pledge
A September 2023 report from APTA outlines the cost-effectiveness and economic value of physical therapist services for a broad range of common conditions. "The Economic Value of Physical Therapy in the United States" Value Pledge, launched with smashing success at the 2024 APTA Combined Sections Meeting. If you missed the chance to take the pledge or are interested in the many resources available, find out more on the Value of Physical Therapy website and join us in advocacy. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our patients and the profession.
Workforce Dynamics Report
Understand the vacancy dynamics in outpatient physical therapy. This benchmark report issued by APTA and APTA Private Practice identified an average vacancy rate of 10% across all employee categories — physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and support personnel in 2023, with larger clinics being the most impacted. Anticipate staffing challenges with clinic growth and leverage the report’s top reasons for employee separation as you develop effective hiring and retention programs.
Co-Branding Portal
Share the benefits of physical therapy and reach a broader audience in your marketing efforts by accessing the APTA Co-Branding Portal. APTA can help you advertise your practice with professionally designed marketing materials. You can also order high-quality prints such as handouts, postcards, and posters to share at health fairs, community events, campus events, and among referring providers and local businesses. This platform is exclusive to APTA members.
Advocacy
Use your company’s voice to contribute to our advocacy efforts. APTA advocacy aims to remove barriers to care, reduce administrative burdens, and empower people to lead healthy lives. We provide opportunities to take quick and simple action on issues related to the profession. Join the APTA Advocacy Network to receive free alerts on how and when you can make your voice heard. You also can follow the #PTAdvocacy hashtag on social media and amplify our calls to action.
APTA Health Benefits Marketplace
It’s a battle to recruit and keep the best staff members. One of the best ways you can show your staff how much you value them is to help keep them healthy. That’s why APTA and APTA Private Practice are collaborating with Decisely to provide access to affordable, quality health solutions for practices with group coverage needs, as well as unique solutions to help our independent contractors reduce their health care costs. These solutions are exclusive APTA member benefits.
Career Advancement
Encourage your employees to further their careers through achievement of PT board certification or PTA advanced proficiency. PTs can gain specialization in one of 10 practice areas, and PTAs can gain advanced proficiency in one of eight areas. Consider providing funding for these efforts to encourage ongoing clinical excellence.
